At 38, United States men's national team defender Tim Ream is the oldest player to appear in the World Cup in USMNT history.
Ream, the USMNT captain for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has been around and seen a lot.
He's never seen anything quite like what the USMNT's 4-1 trouncing of Paraguay in their World Cup opener at SoFi Stadium last Friday.
"I've played with this group and with the national team 83 times, and I think, for me, just being a part of that — watching the guys work and the way they worked for each other, the way we just approached the entire game — it felt just about perfect," Ream said on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" on Tuesday. "Just the intensity that we played with, it for sure is one of if not the best performance that the guys have put in over many, many years."
Later in his "The Herd" appearance, Ream broke down what the Americans will need to do to get a result against Australia.
"They defend their box and their goal really, really well, so it's going to be a battle," he said. "We obviously played them last fall, and it was a really, really tough game. Physical, chippy, and it's something we have to be prepared for. And I think the guys are. The guys know what to expect. We watched them play Türkiye, and we understand what it's gonna take."
The USMNT will face Australia at Lumen Field in Seattle on Friday, June 19. A win and three more points would likely lock up Group D.
