Aston Villa have started talks with Bayern Munich about a summer move for midfielder Joao Palhinha.

Palhinha is surplus to requirements at Bayern. He has played four times in pre-season friendlies, including against Villa.

He spent the 2025-26 season in England, playing 45 times for Tottenham Hotspur. Bayern want around £21 million for the 31-year-old.

Villa seeking Premier League-proven players in midfield

Villa are targeting experienced players who have previously thrived in the Premier League as they look to reorganise their midfield.

They lost midfielder Amadou Onana to a knee injury during the FIFA World Cup, ruling him out of the 2026-27 season.

Youri Tielemans left the club after Manchester United triggered his release clause, leaving them short of options in the middle of the park.

They have signed former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes but now need a ball-winning midfielder to play alongside him.

Palhinha is one of the best combative midfielders in the business. The Portugal international gets around the pitch well and is adept at clearing up danger.

His Champions League experience is a plus for Villa, and he would be a smart addition to their squad if they can secure a deal with Bayern.
