Cape Verde's World Cup hero Vozinha received an enthusiastic welcome at the airport in Santiago on Sunday ahead of his move to record Chilean league champions Colo-Colo.

Hundreds of Colo-Colo fans gathered at the airport to celebrate the goalkeeper's arrival. The 40-year-old is to sign a six-month contract with an option to extend his deal for another season.

"Honestly, I didn't expect so many people after it took me a while to get here. But it's very gratifying to see so many people here," Vozinha said in a video posted by Colo-Colo on X.

Vozinha played for Portuguese second-division side Chaves until before the World Cup and headed into the tournament without a club.

But his heroic performances for Cape Verde impressed the football world.

He and his debutant nation started the World Cup in North America with a goalless draw against eventual champions Spain and only went out in extra time in the last 32 against then defending champions Argentina.

Vozinha, whose real name is Josimar José Évora Dias, became on online sensation in the process as his number of Instagram followers rose from less than 50,000 before the World Cup to now almost 30 million.
