England dug deep to beat Norway 2-1 after extra time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Saturday evening.

Norway broke the deadlock in the 36th minute as Andreas Schjelderup’s attempted cross caught Jordan Pickford off guard and flew into the top corner.

Alexander Sorloth and Martin Odegaard missed chances to make it 2-0, and England punished them.

Jude Bellingham equalised in first-half stoppage time. He controlled Antony Gordon’s pass brilliantly to evade his marker before picking out the far corner.

Harry Kane thought he had put England ahead on the stroke of half-time, but his strike was ruled out for offside.

Norway began the second period aggressively, dominating possession.

Torbjorn Heggem thought he had scored before the hour mark, but the goal was ruled out after Erling Braut Haaland was adjudged to have committed a foul in the build-up.

Kristoffer Ajer came close to restoring Norway’s lead with a header from a corner, but was denied by the woodwork.

Bukayo Saka whipped a dangerous cross into the penalty area at the other end, but it evaded everyone.

Bellingham missed a golden chance to score a late winner, heading a cross wide and forcing the game into extra time.

He scored the winner at the start of extra time, poking the ball home after Orjan Nyland spilt Morgan Rogers’ shot into his path.

The victory sealed England’s place in the World Cup semi-finals, where they will face either Argentina or Switzerland.
