The board of League of Ireland side Finn Harps says a potentially transformative proposal from a prospective investor will be put to its members next month.
The SSE Airtricity Men's First Division club is a fan-owned entity, but that could change after a Special General Meeting of the Donegal side's shareholders on 5 July.
In a statement, Finn Harps' board said they welcomed the potential investment, and added that in their view, "it is in the best interests of the club and its future" for it to be green-lighted at the SGM.
The board added that "voluntary effort alone is not a sustainable foundation for a professional football club in the modern game".
The club also said that the potential investor is open to providing backing for the completion of the Donegal Community Stadium which is intended to replace their current home ground Finn Park.
The project has faced significant delays, with the club having previously set a target of 2024 to move into their new stadium
"The expression of interest received is a serious and detailed proposal," Finn Harps' board said in their statement to shareholders.
"The board has worked carefully to ensure that any investment transaction is structured in a way that protects the long-term interests of the club, its shareholders, and the community it serves.
"Central to the proposal is a commitment to the development of Donegal Community Stadium as a modern, community-anchored facility. The prospective investor has indicated willingness to provide the funding required for the club's match funding element of this stadium development.
"For supporters, the prospect of investment in the first team is equally exciting. The proposal includes increased resources for the playing squad, further funding for the operational running of the club, and the appointment of full-time coaching and support staff."
The board stated that "no transaction has been concluded" with the potential investor and that safeguards have been put in place to protect "the club, its name, its identity, and its place in this community".
"This is the most significant moment in the recent history of Finn Harps," they added.
"The board is proud to be bringing this proposal to members and is fully committed to ensuring that the club seizes the opportunity now in front of it. We look forward to presenting the full detail to members in the coming days."
