Reigning World Cup champion Argentina will go up against Iceland in a friendly at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn on Tuesday. The fixture will serve as the final warm-up for Lionel Messi & Co before they put their world title on the line.

La Albiceleste have won their last six games in a row and are unsurprisingly back among the favorites to lift this year’s World Cup after Messi finally ended his wait for the crown at Qatar 2022. Iceland, on the other hand, hasn’t managed to win any of its last five outings and should, on paper, be a lay-up for Argentina to conclude its World Cup run-in.
Messi was an unused substitute in Argentina’s 2-0 friendly win over Honduras on Saturday after recently missing time due to a hamstring complaint. However, manager Lionel Scaloni may have second thoughts about risking his talisman at this late stage of the World Cup process for the sake of a friendly result.
Emiliano Martinez is also still a doubt in goal after he suffered a broken finger last month, not that it stopped him playing in Aston Villa’s Europa League final victory over Freiburg. Meanwhile, full-back Gonzalo Montiel is also a minor doubt following a recent muscle injury.
