Canada could move to the summit of Group B at World Cup 2026 on Thursday when it hosts Qatar at BC Place in Vancouver, still searching for a first tournament win. The Canucks were disappointingly held to a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their opener, but can take control of the pool if everything goes their way on Thursday.

Jesse Marsch’s side realistically need to win one of these opening two games if they’re to stand the best chance of beating Switzerland to a priority finish in the pool. That being said, Qatar has upset the odds already and thrown its hat into the ring after a 94th-minute equalizer rescued a point against the Swiss in its opener.

Canada’s chances aren’t helped by the fact that both captain Alphonso Davies and fellow defender Moise Bombito each missed the opening game with lingering injuries. The hope was that both stars would recover in time to feature for their country this summer, but the pair are at risk of missing the tournament altogether if that situation doesn’t improve very soon.

It would be a surprise if former Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui made any changes to his side after getting a vital point against Switzerland. However, top-scorer Almoez Ali would be the standout possibility who could enter the XI if any changes are made.
