Jordan face Argentina at Dallas Stadium in the early hours of Sunday morning in the final match of their historic debut World Cup campaign, eliminated but determined to sign off with a performance to remember against the world champions.
Two defeats have confirmed their exit. A win here would be the most significant result in Jordanian football history. With nothing to lose and the world watching, Jamal Sellami’s side have every reason to go out on their own terms.
Jordan team news
Sellami has no injury concerns and a full squad to choose from. Jordan are expected to name a near-identical XI to the side that lost 2–1 to Algeria, retaining the 3-4-3 shape used throughout the group stage.
Yazeed Abulaila continues in goal behind a back three of Yazan Al-Arab, Abdallah Nasib and Husam Abu Dahab — the same unit that kept the score respectable against both Austria and Algeria.
Ihsan Haddad, the team’s captain and most experienced player, earns his 95th international cap at right wing-back, with Mohannad Abu Taha on the left.
Noor Al-Rawabdeh and Nizar Al-Rashdan hold the central midfield positions — Al-Rashdan scored against Algeria and carries a genuine threat from deep runs.
Mousa Al-Tamari leads the line from the right, his pace and directness the sharpest counter-attacking weapon Sellami possesses. Ali Olwan starts centrally, 29 international goals to his name and the scorer of Jordan’s first-ever World Cup goal against Austria.
Mahmoud Al-Mardi completes the front three. Sellami may use this fixture to hand minutes to Odeh Al-Fakhouri and others yet to feature in North America.
Jordan predicted lineup
Jordan possible starting XI (3-4-3): Abulaila; Al-Arab, Nasib, Abu Dahab; Haddad, Al-Rashdan, Al-Rawabdeh, Abu Taha; Al-Tamari, Olwan, Al-Mardi
