Well, another day of Nagelsmann scamming himself into believing Sane.

The ability to see the best in someone is a phenomenal quality. However, this quality might need some toning down and a serious reality check in the realm of sports.

Germany faced Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) in their second game of the FIFA World Cup group stage. The first half saw an extremely underwhelming Germany and this set up an opportunity for Ivorian Franck Kessié to score. Germany managed to pull back and won the game by dint of a brace from substitute Deniz Undav.

Following the game, manager Julian Nagelsmann delivered his thoughts on Leroy Sané’s performance. The former Bayern Munich star has been under fire for his performances with the national team. The insistence of the coach in starting him despite the same has been viewed as favoritism by many, who feel that the likes of Deniz Undav and perhaps even Nick Woltemade, deserve such chances more than Sané.

Nagelsmann was quick to defend the winger, citing his highlights from the game. “He was extremely hard-working and won the ball back 6-7 times in the first half. We demand that from him,” he said, per @iMiaSanMia. “The spaces were very tight in the first half. He didn’t get a goal or an assist, but we didn’t sub him off for performance reasons, it was just to bring on freshness and dynamism with Jamie (Lewelling),” he concluded.

Nagelsmann’s statements interestingly resemble that of most Bayern fans from a few years ago, who would have gladly defended Sané. However, one can only wonder if Nagelsmann really is capable of taking this team places if his standards for a decent performance are so poor. The bar is set so low, it might meet German fans’ hopes.
