FULL TIME: Scotland 1 Haiti 0

DBy David Hirst

Scotland has hung on to beat Haiti 1-0 in their World Cup opener in Boston.

John McGinn's first half opener was enough for the Scots to become the first European team to win a game at the tournament thus far.

Haiti pressed hard for an equaliser in the closing minutes, with Frantzdy Pierrot sending a glancing header just wide.

The win for Scotland, their first at a World Cup since 1990, coupled with Brazil and Morocco's 1-1 draw earlier, means they go top of Group C and in pole position to qualify for the knockout phase.

72' Great chance for McGinn

DBy David Hirst

John McGinn should really have another goal.

It was a tricky angle but should have done better, dragging his shot wide.

Gannon-Doak looking good

DBy David Hirst

Ben Gannon-Doak is having a good game for Scotland.

The Bournemouth player just had a tough season with injuries but is proving a real handful for the Haiti defence.

Great cross whipped in by Andy Robertson but Lawrence Shankland can't quite reach it.

Scotland haven't created much but that was a fantastic cross by Robertson.

Haiti struggling to create chances

DBy David Hirst

It keeps breaking down any time Haiti get a chance to attack.

Bellegarde had a good chance to put a ball through into the box put played it straight out for a goal kick.

McGinn fifth top scorer for Scotland

DBy David Hirst

John McGinn is now Scotland's fifth all-time top scorer. Not bad for a midfielder!

He's only nine goals behind legends like Denis Law and Kenny Dalglish.

Scotland fans celebrate

DBy David Hirst

I think a few pints would have been spilt when that McGinn goal went in. Will the Scotland fans still be celebrating after 90 minutes?

Sun 14 Jun 2026 at 11:53am

And that's half-time

DBy David Hirst

Scotland go into the break with a slender lead.

They've been the better team but Haiti are not out of this.

A bit more quality up front and Haiti could have had a goal.
