Derry City continue to overhaul their squad with the signing of Dutch midfielder Nick Twisk from AZ Alkmaar on the eve of a European campaign.

City, managed by under pressure boss Tiernan Lynch, had already added goalkeeper Tom Norcott, midfielder Ellis Chapman and defender Christy Grogan.

Twisk is a former Netherlands at Under-17 international.

While he failed to make a breakthrough with Alkmaar, he did play over 70 times for the reserve side, Jong AZ, in the Dutch second tier.

The big spending Candystripes take on CSKA Sofia on Thursday in the Europa League first round first leg clash in Bulgaria as they look to rescue what has been a hugely disappointing season so far.

Having been tipped to challenge for the title, they sit in sixth place in the Premier Division, 21 points off the leaders Shamrock Rovers.

Three of Derry's new signings are in the squad for the European campaign, which will be at least two rounds, as defeat would take them into the Conference League second round.

Grogan is the one player to miss out as he looks to build fitness.

Josh Thomas, Dipo Akinyemi, Eddie Beach, Henry Rylah and Ben Doherty have left the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium so far this window.
