One of the most anticipated matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup takes place on Sunday, July 5, when Mexico faces off against England at Estadio Azteca in the Round of 16.
It’s a marquee matchup between two of the most rabid fan bases in the tournament, and sets up for a wild scene on Sunday night in primetime.
Because Mexico is at home, the El Tri faithful have been showing up in droves and were ready to make an early statement about their presence ahead of game day. Like the fans previously did before Mexico’s Round of 32 showdown with Ecuador, they were outside of the England team hotel to cause a raucous and attempt to disrupt the players’ sleep.

At 2:00 a.m. local time, fans were still outside of the England team hotel shooting off fireworks.

Before arriving in Mexico City, England had booked several team hotels in an effort to disguise which hotel the team would be staying at. Despite their best efforts, the El Tri fanbase was able to figure out the puzzle.

Now, we’ll have to see whether the Mexico team can do its part and continue its dominance at Estadio Azteca to advance to the quarterfinals.
