The night before Mexico took on Ecuador at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, their fans began a psychological attack on the visitors outside Ecuador’s hotel.
Starting at midnight and continuing into the early hours, dozens of Mexican fans, who organized on social media, gathered outside the Westin Hotel in Mexico City's suburb of Santa Fe, using loudspeakers, horns and motorcycles to make as much noise as possible to disrupt Ecuador’s sleep.
Ecuador already faced delays on its trip from Columbus, Ohio, to Mexico City the night before the game. The team wanted to arrive Monday night to adjust to the 7,200-foot altitude, but faced travel delays that turned a nine-hour trip from Columbus into a trip to their hotel.
Mexico was scheduled to face Ecuador at 7 p.m. MT//8 p.m. CT on Tuesday, June 30, at the Estadio Azteca.
