Two days before the FIFA men's World Cup final, two of Mexico's most celebrated former soccer stars will visit Stew Leonard's in Yonkers for a bottle-signing event.
Jared Borgetti and Luis Hernández, nicknamed "El Matador," will sign bottles of Gran Centenario tequila beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, July 17, at the store's wine and spirits shop, according to Stew Leonard's.
Who are Jared Borgetti and Luis Hernández?
Borgetti, now an ESPN analyst and commentator, scored 46 goals for Mexico's men's national team, tying for second on the country's all-time scoring list.
Hernández scored 35 goals for Mexico, ranking among the nation's top five all-time scorers. He is perhaps best known for his standout performance at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, where he scored several goals for Mexico.
Gran Centenario Tequila is an official sponsor of Mexico's national soccer team.
How to attend the bottle signing
No tickets are required to attend.
However, customers must purchase a Gran Centenario World Cup Fan Package to join the autograph line and meet the players. The package can be preordered or purchased in-store.
Each fan package includes:
- One bottle of Gran Centenario World Cup Edition Plata
- One bottle of Gran Centenario Reposado
"To ensure your spot in line and secure your signed bottles, we strongly recommend pre-ordering your bundle in advance," Stew Leonard's said.
World Cup final is Sunday
The appearance comes just before the FIFA men's World Cup final, scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, July 19, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where Spain will face defending champion Argentina.
Stew Leonard's continues celebrity appearances
Borgetti and Hernández are the latest sports legends to appear at Stew Leonard's in Yonkers.
In June, former New York Knicks great Walt "Clyde" Frazier visited the store during a celebration honoring the Yonkers Montessori Academy girls basketball team, which became the first Yonkers school basketball team to win a state championship since the Yonkers High School boys team captured the title in 1932.
