Newcastle United have added Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha to their target list as Bruno Guimaraes edges closer to joining Arsenal, according to L’Equipe.

With Arsenal pushing to finalise an £80 million deal for Guimaraes, Newcastle are already working to secure a high-calibre replacement capable of anchoring the team’s midfield.

Nmecha has emerged as a candidate after a series of standout performances for Dortmund last season and for Germany during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Newcastle have long admired the 25-year-old’s profile, having previously considered a move for the midfielder during his time at Wolfsburg before ultimately signing Sandro Tonali.

Having gained substantial Bundesliga and Champions League experience, the Magpies view the German international as an ideal fit to add physicality and ball progression to their midfield.

Dortmund hold strong leverage, with Nmecha under contract until 2030 and valued at around €100 million this summer.

While a reported €80m clause becomes active in future transfer windows, Newcastle hope to convince the German club to open formal negotiations now.

Premier League rivals Manchester United and Manchester City have also been linked with the player this summer. However, United have since signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

City are currently working on a move for Ayyoub Bouaddi after their earlier acquisition of Elliot Anderson.

With Guimaraes’ transfer to Arsenal entering its final stages, Newcastle could accelerate direct talks with Dortmund to ensure a seamless transition in midfield ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
