The German asks all fans to stand with the team through their good and difficult times.

The German national team has received its worst injury blow of the World Cup yet.

The second group stage game of the FIFA World Cup 2026 ended a 2-1 win against Côte d’Ivoire. The African powerhouse troubled Germany all through the first half and the retaliation only came in through the efforts of Deniz Undav in the second half.

The issue? The German defense could not hold their own. Nico Schlotterbeck was perhaps one of the better players. Now, having picked up an ankle ligament injury from the game, he is out for the rest of the World Cup. The Dortmund star has spoken following his diagnosis and has stressed that he wishes not to speak until he is done processing it himself.

“I still need some time to process everything and talk about it at a later point. That’s why I won’t be making any detailed statements on the matter for now,” he stated, as captured by @iMiaSanMia.

He then explained that all that needs to be spoken of is the Team and urged all to provide their unwavering support.

“What matters now is the team,” he went on. “They deserve the full support of everyone in Germany. Let’s stand together and show that we back this German national team through both the good times and the difficult ones, and support them on their journey to the World Cup title.”

Germany has secured a spot in the knockout round having picked up six points from two games. How the team will progress further and how they offset the absence of Schlotterbeck remains to be seen.
