Norwegian Football Association president Lise Klaveness announced on Thursday that she will file a formal complaint with FIFA about the Folarin Balogun affair.

US President Donald Trump called FIFA president Gianni Infantino during the recent home World Cup to ask for the US striker to have a red card suspension dropped.

FIFA then lifted his ban but Infantino said it had nothing to do with Trump's call. Most pundits agreed Balogun's sending off was harsh, but the controversy dominated the second half of the tournament.

Now Klaveness has criticized FIFA officials in an interview with the UK's Times newspaper and accused them of wanting to cover up the case. She called on Infantino to admit the Balogun decision was an error.

Klaveness has been a constant critic of FIFA and Infantino, who is however popular outside Europe for extending the men's World Cup to 48 teams and is widely expected to win re-election next year.
