Paddy Power have brutally put the boot in on FIFA and Gianni Infantino over the governing body's jaw-dropping private investment plans for the World Cup.

The fallout and controversy from the leaked proposal about FIFA's desire to generate £3.1billion in private investment by selling off a portion of the tournament, along with the Club World Cup, has been significant.

UEFA, CONCACAF and the AFC have all come out against Infantino's plot, while one of his most senior advisors Carlos Cordeiro also resigned in protest.

And now Paddy Power have had their say, with the bookmaker aiming a hilarious dig at the governing body.

In response to the plan and FIFA's alleged desperation to bring in outside investment, a mysterious green 'FOR SALE' sign was spotted outside FIFA HQ in Zurich, Switzerland. 

A message on the sign read: 'To anyone – anyone – with money, power and a willingness to endure Gianni’s small talk.'

Paddy Power put a mysterious green 'FOR SALE' sign outside FIFA HQ in Switzerland

The stunt was revealed on social media on Friday morning, with a man dressed in a green cap seen hammering the sign into the ground. 

A Paddy Power spokesperson said: 'Astronomical ticket prices. Inflated hotel room rates. A diabolical half-time show. 

'Just when you think you’ve seen it all from Gianni Infantino, he goes and puts the World Cup on the market.

'We thought that might be one thing that isn’t up for grabs, but Gianni seems to think otherwise, so we’ve lent him a sign to tell suitors football is officially for sale.'

With the opposition from UEFA, CONCACAF and the AFC - plus Infantino's own inner circle - the proposal now appears to be dead in the water.

BREAKING NEWS FIFA's World Cup plot in tatters as key allies and more nations turn on deluded Gianni Infantino

This is because 135 FIFA members are now publicly opposed to the FIFA Forward Enterprise - the name of the new company Infantino wants to set up to run the tournaments - bringing the dissidents above the required 106 threshold to block the plan.

When announcing his resignation, Cordeiro distanced himself from Infantino’s plot and ripped into the proposal.

He also called on his now former FIFA colleagues to follow suit and speak out against the plan, which he describes as a bad deal for football. Infantino had promised member associations a £30million incentive to force the deal through. 

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham joined the growing calls for Infantino to resign from his role on Friday afternoon.
