Emmy nominee Peter Sarsgaard has joined the third and likely final season of HBO’s popular post-apocalyptic drama series “The Last of Us” in a recurring role.
The “Shattered Glass,” “September 5” and “DTF St. Louis” actor will take on a new role that’s new to the series and not in the game – specifically Amon, one of the leaders of the religious cult the Seraphites.
The third season began filming on March 2nd and is currently in the midst of a one-month production break due to its shooting locale, Vancouver, being one of the host cities of the FIFA World Cup. Shooting resumes in July and runs through November 27th.
Co-created by Craig Mazin and the game’s Neil Druckmann, the third season shifts perspective to Abby Anderson (Kaitlyn Dever), a member of the Washington Liberation Front whose actions set off events last season.
The new episodes will initially cover the three-day span in Seattle that we saw in the second season, but from Abby’s point-of-view as she befriends a runaway Seraphite and must deal with a sniper taking out WLF members and someone else killing her friends.
Craig Mazin, who served as executive producer/co-showrunner in the first two seasons, serves as sole showrunner for the third season which will air in 2027.
