Gio Reyna is reportedly on the verge of a move to France.
Strasbourg is reportedly set to acquire Reyna in a permanent deal from Borussia Moenchengladbach, French outlet L’Equipe reported Sunday. Gladbach are set to receive a €3 million fee for Reyna’s services, one year after they acquired him from Borussia Dortmund.
Reyna is slated to undergo his medical Monday and will sign a five-year contract, according to the report.
The 23-year-old struggled to have much of an impact with Gladbach last season, scoring one goal in 20 appearances. Despite teaming up with U.S. Men’s National Team teammate Joe Scally, Reyna made just five starts.
Reyna is trying to get his club career back on track after a worrying last three years in Germany. Since totaling 16 goals between the 2020-21 to 2022-23 seasons, Reyna has found the back of the net just three times over the past three campaigns.
He did score once in a 4-1 FIFA World Cup victory over Paraguay this summer and has earned seven caps in total for the USMNT this year.
Strasbourg finished eighth in Ligue 1 last season, just missing out on a European qualification spot. Hugo Oliveira’s squad will kick off their new league campaign on August 21 at Marseille.
