FIFA World Cup fever has erupted around the world, and particularly in the three host countries of this year's event, as fans and celebrity superfans witness some spectacular performances on the pitch.

Most casual sports fans have heard of Lionel Messi, who is considered the greatest international soccer (football) player on the planet, and he keeps adding to his legendary status at this edition of the World Cup.

On Monday, Messi and Argentina looked to qualify by getting a second Group J win against Austria. They achieved that goal, and Messi was the driving force behind their victory, as he scored a goal in each half of a 2-0 win.

The first of those goals gave him the all-time goals record for any player in World Cup history, with 17 scored across his various appearances. He officially passed Germany's Miroslav Klose at the top of the list, and with his second goal in that win over Austria, he has 18.

Like the rest of the world, FIFA World Cup performer and superfan Shakira took notice and sent a heartfelt message to Messi on her official Instagram Story.

"Very proud of you, Leo, and of everything you’re achieving for your family, your country, and all Latinos!!! Your commitment and dedication are an example to many. Keep shining!" she wrote in a Spanish and English message on her IG Story slide over a photo of a celebrating Messi.

The Grammy-winning singer attended the game to witness Messi achieve history, and she received a great reception from fans, prompting her to wave and blow kisses in appreciation of their support.

In addition to attending games as a fan, Shakira recorded the song "Dai Dai" with Burna Boy for the "Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Album." While she is Colombian and likely supporting her team as they lead Group K, she can also appreciate the impressive performances of other star players like Messi, who are shining under this World Cup spotlight.

With their second win, Argentina officially qualified for the Round of 32 at this year's World Cup. The defending champions have looked solid in their two victories, with the wins powered by Messi's five goals.

Their next game carries relatively little weight since they already qualified for the Knockout Phase. Argentina will meet Jordan on Saturday in both teams' final Group J game, with Argentina likely to rest key players to avoid wear and tear.
