Tottenham Hotspur right-back Djed Spence is reportedly open to joining Liverpool.
Spence is not guaranteed a starting berth next season, with Pedro Porro considered the club’s first-choice right-back.
The 25-year-old is also unlikely to start at left-back following the signing of Andy Robertson.
Liverpool struggled at right-back last season, with Jeremie Frimpong failing to impress and Conor Bradley missing a significant spell through a knee injury.
Liverpool are now considering a move for Spence to strengthen their right-back position. The Spurs defender can also play at left-back, adding to his appeal.
Tottenham would listen to offers of at least £35 million for the England international.
Spence featured regularly last season, making 44 appearances across competitions.
He was named in the Three Lions’ squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He featured eight times and provided one assist at the tournament.
Liverpool should steer clear of Spence
Liverpool should not make a move for Spence as he is not a significant upgrade on Frimpong and Bradley, although he had a better fitness record than them last term.
With the Reds also short of centre-backs, they are better served targeting a player capable of playing as a central defender and right-back.
Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa would be a better fit. His ability to play at centre-back and right-back would provide Liverpool with greater tactical flexibility while also strengthening their defence.
Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with Konsa, who Villa value at around £60 million.
