“Did you like the officiating at this years world cup?”
This may sound horrible but I really didn’t care. I didn’t watch one second of any game. After so many years of living within the sports world I have become more selective of what I let entertain me and international sports is not high on my list. But the one thing I have accomplished is an acceptance as to the failures of the organizations that “control” the business of each of the owners’ investments. And that’s all they are, just someone trying to make a buck on entertainment.
And look at the damage they have done:
Kids getting hooked taking pain drugs to compete
False promises to student athletes
Damage to other people’s property when the team either wins...or loses
Money that could have gone to good wasted on tickets and pennants
The permanent injuries or deaths of competitors and “fans” stretching the limits of our society to the point of teams trying to get into countries just to either spy or hide from their country’s failures
And yes, even the amount of carbon in the air during the traffic jam getting into the stadium
It runs the gambit, doesn’t it? But to answer your question the best I can I have to say it did please the people that were profiting from it financially. Everyone else is just the pig for slaughter and the sport was the apple. And I hope they were pleased with the outcome.
Sportsmanship, fair play, purity of the game, and the good moral intent of the competition no longer exists. And the heroes that play it don’t either or they would fix it at least for the little leaguers or the youth basketball, football, volleyball or soccer kids to have a clean belief in what they actually strive for even though a vast majority will never make it. And that little minority is willing to harm themselves to do so. Might as well be gladiators. At least in that, there are no left over athletes to poison the next generation. Sorry for the ramble.
