Updated FIFA world rankings after 2026 World Cup

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the books following Spain’s victory over Argentina in the final on Sunday, FIFA has released its updated world rankings.

In what is no surprise to anyone, Spain sits atop the rankings after entering the World Cup in the No. 2 spot. Spain knocked Argentina off its perch atop the rankings after Sunday’s 1-0 victory, with Lionel Messi and Co. falling to No. 2.

The biggest mover inside the top 20 is Norway after it advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to England, 2-1. Norway sits in the No. 19 spot after a massive 12-spot leap.

Speaking of England, the tournament’s third-place finisher, there is no change with a No. 4 ranking.

The other club that lost in the semifinals, France, remains in third despite losing to England in the third-place contest, 6-4.

Brazil (No. 5), Morocco (No. 6), Belgium (No. 8), the United States (No. 16) and Japan (No. 17) all moved up one spot, and Mexico (No. 10), Colombia (No. 11) and Switzerland (No. 14) moved up four, two and five spots, respectively.

Moving down in the top 20 are Portugal (two spots to No. 7), Netherlands (one spot to No. 9), Germany (two spots to No. 12), Croatia (two spots to No. 13), Italy (three spots to No. 15), Senegal (three spots to No. 18) and Uruguay (four spots to No. 20).

Iran was the only team to get bounced from the top 20 (down two spots to No. 22).
