There were two major roster updates from Monday’s U.S. Men’s National Team training session.
Christian Pulisic returned to full team training on Monday, a major positive heading into the USMNT’s final Group D match against Turkey on Thursday. It marked Pulisic’s first full training session with the team since June 11.
Pulisic missed the USMNT’s 2-0 victory over Australia on Friday as he continued to recover from a calf injury suffered against Paraguay back on June 12. The 27-year-old played assisted once in 45 minutes against the Paraguayans as Mauricio Pochettino’s squad claimed a 4-1 win at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Ricardo Pepi started in Pulisic’s absence last Friday against the Socceroos as Pochettino went with a two-striker setup.
Although the USMNT have already clinched top spot in Group D, Pulisic could see some playing time on Thursday as preparation for the Round of 32.
Cristian Roldan listed day-to-day with muscle strain
One of the USMNT’s midfielders that could’ve seen a start against Turkey looks likely to miss out.
Cristian Roldan has been listed “day-to-day” with a muscle strain, U.S. Soccer confirmed during Monday’s training session. The veteran midfielder has not featured at the FIFA World Cup so far and only played 63 minutes combined in the two pre-World Cup tuneups against Senegal and Germany.
With Pochettino looking to provide some rest to midfielders Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie on Thursday, Roldan seemed to be a likely candidate to start. However, his new injury will likely force him out of contention, bearing any major changes.
Roldan has earned 47 caps with the USMNT to date, with his last international start coming back in November against Paraguay.
The 31-year-old has also made over 400 club appearances for the Seattle Sounders.
