The U.S. Under-19 Men’s National Team sealed its spot into the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Gonzalo Segares’ squad rallied to defeat Guatemala 3-1 on Tuesday night in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship’s quarterfinal round, becoming one of two teams to seal their World Cup berth so far.
Brandon Dayes, Dino Klapija, and Josh Torquato all found the back of the net to punch the Americans’ ticket into the tournament’s semifinal round.
Oscar de Leon delivered a shocking lead for Guatemala after 36 minutes, scoring the first goal against the USMNT U-19’s this summer.
However, the lead would only last nine minutes as Dayes equalized to make it 1-1 heading into the interval. Dayes finished off a loose ball in the box following a U.S. corner kick.
Klapija netted his third goal of the tournament after the hour mark to give the Americans a 2-1 lead. Jaidyn Contreras cut back a pass on the end-line and Klapija did the rest by roofing the one-time finish.
Ruben Ramos Jr teed up Torquato for the USMNT U-19’s third and final goal of the match. Ramos’ through ball pass allowed Torquato to race into the box and drill a shot into the back of the net.
Kayne Rizvanovich made two saves to help preserve the Americans’ fourth victory of the competition.
The USMNT U-19’s will face Costa Rica in the semifinal round on Friday.
