FOXBOROUGH — Surely Ousmane Dembélé remembers this place well.
When the France national team last took the pitch in Massachusetts, the 29-year-old PSG star registered a first-half hat trick to stamp a convincing win over Norway in the Group Stage.
He and Kylian Mbappé have returned.
France will meet Morocco for an elimination match in the World Cup quarterfinals at Gillette Stadium (which is recognized by FIFA as Boston Stadium) in Foxborough, Massachusetts on Thursday, July 9 at 4 p.m. on FOX.
France, among the heaviest favorites to win the tournament, slid past Paraguay, 1-0, on a 70th-minute goal by Mbappé in the Round of 16 to reach this point. It was Mbappé's 19th career World Cup goal, and seventh of this tournament, as the team prevailed in its lone one-goal match in five outings (5-0 record).
Morocco edged Netherlands on penalty kicks (1-1; 3-2 PKs) in the knockout round, and blasted past Canada (3-0 final) in the Round of 16 behind a pair of strikes by Azzedine Ounahi to advance here. This marks the nation's second straight trip to the quarterfinals. It reached the semis for the first time ever in 2022.
