Ivory Coast made history by advancing out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage for the first time ever. Now, the Les Éléphants face their toughest challenge yet as they take on Norway in the round of 32. Many viewers have noticed that the Ivory Coast is listed as "CIV" in the official score box, a detail that has sparked curiosity throughout the tournament.
The abbreviation "CIV" stands for "Côte d’Ivoire," the French name for the country officially known as the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire. FIFA recognizes and uses the nation’s official French title in all international competitions, which is why "CIV" appears in score boxes and tournament graphics instead of the English translation, Ivory Coast.
Ivory Coast’s path to the round of 32 was hard-fought. They secured six points to finish as runners-up in Group E, starting their campaign with a commanding 2-0 victory over Curacao. Despite a narrow 2-1 defeat to Germany in their second match, the team bounced back with a crucial 1-0 win against Ecuador to wrap up the group stage.
